About
Grayscale is dedicated to improving the user experience of the Eurorack modular synthesizer format. Building upon years of experience and applied research focused on usability, ergonomics, and aesthetics, Grayscale brings a unique design-driven approach to the engineering-dominated world of music electronics.
Founded in 2013 as a framework for supplying minimalistic alternate panels, Grayscale has expanded into module design and now offers a lineup that provides unique takes on core modular synthesis concepts and alternative approaches to existing open-source modules.
The brand was founded in 2013 as a platform for supplying minimalistic alternative front panels for aesthetically-challenged Eurorack modules. The next year Grayscale also expanded into production of new modules and now offers a lineup that provides unique takes on core modular synthesis concepts and alternative approaches to existing open-source modules. In 2018 a separate brand called 1979 was created as a platform for releasing Buchla format modules. Developing modules in multiple formats creates a feedback loop in the design process, informing the continued exploration of new modular synthesis interface concepts.

It's easy to install alternate panels. Watch the videos below for examples. Note that most of our aluminum panels have a protective plastic film on the front, which should be removed before installation.
